A New Song International's Secondary Tuition Scholarship Fund seeks to raise funds to help the older children we serve at Happy Times finish their education, either through secondary school or trade school. It is our hope that by the time a Happy Times child has reached adulthood, they have been given the opportunity to succeed–to rise out of poverty, rise above their humble beginnings, and be productive members of Ugandan society.
When we first began our partnership with Happy Times in 2016, we were caring for around 125 children. Today, we care for just under 500. The number are staggering. There has been a significant increase in our orphan population due to adoption law changes and many other factors. And with each passing year, our children grow older.
Our younger, primary aged, children at Happy Times are able to attend Happy Times Junior School, which is fully supported by our ministry at A New Song International. However, we do not currently have a secondary school on our Happy Times campus, which means these older students are required to attend one of the secondary or trade schools within the community and are required to pay school fees. In 2016, with only 25 secondary students, this was manageable. But at the beginning of 2023, we had 55 secondary students and that number will only continue to grow at the beginning of each school year in January.
Sponsorship funds are no longer able to cover the high cost of secondary fees, and we'd be grateful if you'd consider partnering with us to keep these children in school. Our secondary aged children who are sponsored will continue to benefit from your sponsorship though housing, food, discipleship, and care, of course, but education expenses will need to come through scholarship.
